The Outlaw Lewis Redmond

In the era of Jesse James and Billy-the-Kid, audacious Appalachian bootlegger 'Major' Lewis Redmond was the most famous outlaw in the United States. Redmond ran a bootleg whiskey operation that ranged through three states, fought and eluded federal lawmen, and helped poor mountain people pay their taxes to save their land. This PBS special uncovers the truth behind a forgotten folk hero, the “Robin Hood of Appalachia”
