Description
In his heyday, ‘Major’ Lewis Redmond was the most famous outlaw in the United States, even outshining his contemporaries Jesse James and Billy-the-Kid. From deep in Southern Appalachia, Redmond built a bootleg whiskey ring that ranged across three states, fought and eluded federal lawmen, and helped poor mountain people pay their taxes to save their land. This PBS special recovers the truth behind a forgotten folk hero, the “Robin Hood of Appalachia.”
